Year 6 Team Building Activity

At the end of this Term we took part in a Year 6 Team building challenge in the Auditorium.  We had to work together to build a bridge that was wide enough for a ball to pass through and strong enough to hold a dictionary.

Dear Oscar,

Our names are Caleb, Earl, Oliver and Khristian.  We live in Auckland and are in Room 21 at Elm Park School.

Thank you Oscar for taking the time to send the letter to us.  It was very  interesting to read.  We learnt a lot about recycling and pollution.  We never knew that there were huge holes in Ozone Layer and that we could get sun burnt in just 5 minutes.

In our class we have been learning about soil and how important it is to the Environment.  We have learned that soil is used in many different ways. Some of the uses for soils are that is soaks up water which helps regulate floods.  It is also used for storing carbon which helps to modify what is in the atmosphere.  Also incredibly the bacteria in it is used in over 60% of cancer drugs!  Did you know that there is more bacteria in a teaspoon of soil than there are people on Earth.   Scientists have only figured out 1% of those bacteria.  The other 99% bacteria could be the cure for all the world’s diseases.

Youth Town Hockey Skills

This Term we have been working with Youth Town sports and learning different hockey skills.

About The Artist

About the Artist Khristian is 10 years old and lives in Auckland, New Zealand. He was born in May 14th 2005. He is a year 6 student in Elm Park School. His favourite subject is Art and P.E. His favourite part of the art was cutting the eyelashes. He learned how to blend colours and dry brush. The hardest part of the artwork was mixing the colours. The School values he used was perseverance and quality. He used perseverance because he never gave up even when it was really hard. He used quality because his artwork was at a really high standard. When Khristian grows up he wants to be a famous Soccer player. His future goal is to have a great job and a happy family.

Learning Reflection

I am learning to write in the third person.

I am so proud of being able to write in the third person as this was new for me.

It can be tricky to remember to use words like he and him.

My Teacher of buddy could help me with this.

The next step for me in my learning is to write in the second person.

Peer Mediator

   

I got this Peer Mediator badge because I did my duty every Tuesday and 

solved a lot of problems. I also got it because I went on all the training sessions 

on lunch time and I graduated.
